Emerald Pools Trail Zion

The Emerald pools trail in Zion National Park is one of the main attractions to the park. The trail is 1.2 miles or 1.9 Kilometers long and loops around so no matter which way you head you finish the trail.

The scenery is definitely wonderful as you hike up the mountain there are points where you will be able to see people who are just starting the trail, and they will look pretty small so if you are scared of heights don’t look down. When you get to the middle if the trail you’ll pass by the lower pools which is basically the top of a waterfall. The water forms a few small pools before heading down the falls.

This is a nice place to take a short break, eat lunch or just relax. If you feel brave and look over the edge of the waterfall you will see a 40 foot drop, so be careful.

After you have reenergized it is up to you weather you want to hike uphill .9 miles to the middle pool and another 50 yards to the upper pool, or just head downhill and loop around. I haven’t been to the upper pools personally, but I hear that it is well worth the visit.

My favorite part of the trail is heading back where you will find a wet and wild scenery. There is actually a spot where you can walk under this large waterfall on a paved trail. If it has been raining and the falls are overflowing this can be very entertaining and you will almost certainly get wet, so be prepared.

If the falls aren’t as full when you go you might still get a little wet which could be nice when it is hot outside. The whole hike should take less than an hour if you are just going to the lower part. It is a nice little trail that you should visit if you are ever in the neighborhood.
