Who Founded Utah?

Who founded Utah? Salt Lake City was founded on July 24 1847 by a group of Mormons who headed west in order to escape persecution. Brigham Young, the group leader founded Utah as the 45th state on January 4th 1896, 46 years after the area had become a territory of the United States with the signing of the Compromise of 1850.

Utah History before “white man” arrived

Before the Mormons arrived Utah was already occupied by the Ute, Shoshone, Gosiutes, and Paiutes Indians, who were in constant warfare with another group of people called the Navajo Indians. Utah would get its name from the Ute Indians whose name means “Mountain People”.
