What is the Utah State Tree?

The Utah State tree has been the Colorado blue spruce tree since 1933. It also became the Colorado State tree in 1939. The plant was usually stands around 30’ – 80’ and is widely used as for decorations and Christmas trees.

The cones can range anywhere from 2-4 inches and the bark is normally gray to reddish brown. As the name suggest the tree is normally covered with blue needles, but that is not always the case.

Blue Spruce trees can be found in the Wasatch and Uinta mountains which have an elevation of 6,000-11,000 feet. Despite thriving in such a cold climate they are evergreen trees and bring beauty to the cold snowy mountains in the winter.

Growing Blue Spruce

The Colorado blue spruce tree enjoys rich moist soil but it can thrive in many different types of solid including clay. It enjoys sunlight but can also survive in partial shade. Make sure not to give it too much shade though.
