The Climate of Utah varies depending on where you are in the state. St George can reach temperatures in the 90s and 100s of degrees Fahrenheit, where as some place like Fish Lake or Cedar Breaks might occasionally receive snow in July. (St George was also the place of the hottest recorded day in Utah 117 degrees.

Typically the temperature decreases 3 degrees Fahrenheit for every 1000 feet above sea level and 1 -2 degrees Fahrenheit for every 1 degree of latitude you move north. However most of the state does receive sunshine nearly year round and has low humidity making it a great spot for being outdoors.

The mountains on the Northern and Eastern side of the state act as a barrier for the cold continental Artic Air Masses. This normally keeps the temperature in the winder bearable.

It is extremely rare to see a day below 0 degrees Fahrenheit even in the winter. Even so it can get pretty cold at times. The lowest recorded temperature was 69 degrees below 0, it was taken at Peter’s Sink in Northern Utah, one of the coldest places in the United States.

Strong winds can occur throughout the state on occasion and tornadoes are an extremely rare site. Still there is a possibility of the wind causing damage to a house or building.

Precipitation

Rainfall in Utah can vary greatly. Parts of Utah with an elevation below 4,000 feet normally receive less than 10 inches of rain a year. Elevations above 4,000 feet can receive up to 40 inches of rain a year, depending on the particular area.
