Snow Canyon State Park in Utah

Snow Canyon State Park in Utah (formally Dixie State Park) has some of the most interesting rock climbing areas, hiking trails, and campgrounds in Utah.

Millions of years ago sand dunes where spread out all over Utah, this sand eventually fused together to form sandstone. But there are some areas’ in the state where the sand has not fused together and you can see sand dunes. The sand dunes trail is a short .5 mile hike in the park where you can still see sand dunes in Utah.

As early as 10,000 years ago sand stone Cinder cones exploded which caused lava to flow down the canyons filling it with basalt and changing the river flow.

You will be able to see hardened lava at Utah’s lava flow overlook in Snow Canyon. The trail passes by a number of Lava caves which were formed as the outer layer of lava cooled down and solidified while the deep inner layer continued to flow.

The Snow Canyon Campground is one of the best campgrounds in Utah because it is near to both, Zions National Park and Bryce Canyon as well as many smaller state parks.
