Fish Lake Utah

Fish lake Utah is a perfect place to go fishing and camping. The lake is 6 miles long and 1 mile wide. It can get up to 160 feet deep.

This lake is famous for its Mackinaw Lake Trout which can get up to 40 pounds. Other common catches are the Splake and Rainbow Trout.

While fishing directly on the shore is allowed and can lead to a few big prizes, there are 2 major reasons why using a boat can be a better alternative. The water near the shore can contain thick weeds so you are more likely to lose your lure if you fish by the shore. Also the lake trout often hang out near the bottom of the deep water.

Fish Lake is also a camping ground so you can fish during the day and camp during night. Just a word of warning, “Don’t bring a tent” The campground has an elevation over 8,800 feet above sea level, so it can get very cold.

I heard a story about a couple camping there from out of state in early September. They were originally going to stay for 2 nights. During the first night the outside temperature fell to 38 degrees Fahrenheit. In the morning they decided they would not stay another night and left their tent behind.

The moral of the story, bring an RV if you are going to camp here.

During the winter it can get cold enough to enjoy such activities as snowboarding, skiing, and ice fishing.

fish lake national forest
The lake and campground is surrounded by Fish Lake National Forest which encompasses over 1 million acres of beautiful tress and hiking trails. This is also the home to the “Pando” tress which is a group of identical male Aspen trees; they all share the same root system. The “Pando” tree is the heaviest living organism alive in the world.

The park is located in Richfield, UT 84701
