The Big Rock Candy Mountain Utah

The Big Rock Candy Mountain in Marysvale Utah took its name from a famous 1928 song written by Henry McClintock called, “The Big Rock Candy Mountain”

Shortly after the song was released a couple of local’s put a sign at the base of the mountain calling it “The Big Rock Candy Mountain” they also placed a sign close to the nearby spring calling that “Lemonade Springs”. Even though it was a joke the names stuck.

Sometime between 21 and 35 million years ago a massive eruption of Stratovolcanoes deposited large volumes of lava and ash. The presents of Hydrogen Sulfide, steam, water, and Oxygen caused a chemical reaction which gave the rock its unique appearance.

In addition to being a “hoboes Paradise” the nearby big rock candy resort hosts a number of activities such as ATV riding and white water rafting. The mountain is located in Marysvale Utah about 30 miles South of Richfield off highway I-70.
